The main interest in this mola is the cross hatch texture which fills most of the mola. The word "PAJARO" is the Spanish word for bird. Two birds face each other extending into a less identifiable shape surrounding them.
This mola has the common three outline channel defining the birds and the surrounding shape. It is a three layer mola made with a red top layer, an orange middle layer and a blue foundation layer. The interesting part is the cross hatch texture. this is a very simple mola but it required a lot of patience.
Step 1. The orange middle layer was placed over the blue foundation layer. The channel was cut and stitched so that the blue is revealed within it. Step 2. Long vertical slits were cut and stitched to cover the most of the entire surface of the mola.
Step 3. The red top layer was then placed over the mola and the channel was completed so that a narrow edge of the orange middle layer is revealed around the blue channel. Step 4. Long horizontal slits were cut and stitched to cover the surface so that the cross hatch effect was achieved.
Step 5. The black bar was appliquéd above the birds. The white eyes were placed on the two birds surrounded with an embroidered running stitch. Step 6. The last bit of detail includes the black center for the eyes and the multi colored letters placed in the bar.
