One of the best petroglyph sites is in the Coso Range in California. The canyons are on the Naval Weapons Base at Ridgecrest. The Navy allows limited escorted visitors to view these petroglyphs on certain weekends. Reservations have to be made through the Maturango Museum at Ridgecrest.
