Here, I try to show the various steps of creating some complex molas. Every time a new piece is applied, the cut edge is always folded under with an allowance of about 1/8 in. The stitches made to hold it in place are very tiny and close together, almost invisible in the best molas. Channels are always cut and stitched under, revealing the underneath layer, to define the edge of a figure. These channels may be only one outline or they may be 2, 3, 5 or 7 outlines. There are many complex ways of creating these multi outline channels, some involve the addition of a narrow inlay within. Each step shows the new additions after they have been cut and stitched in place. Click
on each mola to see the steps in creating it. |
